I was going to write a post all about my name, mainly because usually when I first meet someone, I end up spending forever explaining yes, my name really is Spirit etc etc etc.

But then I came across a post by [personal profile] yasaman:
everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).
And I decided that sounded like much more fun, and that I would steal it.

1) Stargate
There is absolutely no way I would be exaggerating if I said this movie changed my LIFE. As a kid, I loved science-fiction, I loved mythology and ancient history - and yes, especially Egypt and the pharoahs etc etc. So, age 19 and completely unsure what to do with my life, this movie came out and I went to see it and 'holy shit, I could actually STUDY this stuff and make a career of it' and then there was the TV show and... like I said yesterday, don't get me talking about this or you'll never shut me up again hah!

2) Return Of The Jedi
Well, to be fair, all 3 of the classic trilogy because they introduced me to science-fiction at a very young age but RotJ specifically I remember going to the cinema to see - it may even have been the first movie I saw on the big screen. I will always remember the feeling of hearing that music and seeing the scroll in that fashion

3) The Mummy
Again, that combination of sci-fi/fantasy with ancient history and mythology. What's a girl to do?!

4) Jurassic Park
I swear I have never been quite so scared as I was the first time I saw Jurassic Park, but also awestruck and amazed. And John Williams' music will always be able to blow me away. Did we mention DINOSAURS?!?!!!

5) Pirates Of The Caribbean
I may be a little bit in love with both Elizabeth Swann and Captain Jack Sparrow. None of the sequels did it for me but Pirates will always be the perfect rainy day escapist movie

6) Schindler's List
I initially saw this when we studied it in school but it's always stuck with me, still gives me nightmares and just thinking about it can make me cry my eyes out. I'm actually welling up while I try and find the words to explain why this has stayed with me. It's just powerful and hearbreaking and beautiful and horrifying and amazing

7) The Ring
The only movie I've ever slept with the light on after watching but totally whetted my tastebuds for horror. For movies that SCARE me, not gross me out or are full of guts and gore but proper psychological horror that makes you look behind you.

8) Back To The Future
One day I will own a DeLorean... childhood dream, still hasn't happened, still isn't likely to happen but a girl can wish. I loved the themes of family, of not being able to change the past and how it would affect the now, the future and everything. Especially in Part II.

I'm not sure I have another two. I've been racking my brain for a while but can't think of any. I'm sure I will as soon as I hit post so if I do, I'll come back and edit this :)
